Gorgeous !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that's just a few towns over from me. Bidding's at £1000 reserve not met, so it's already out of my current price range :S
Another car on my 'do want' list, a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I'd swap in fuel injection instead of carbs, a flat MGB bonnet and a Jag IRS. Other than that, this is excellent. There's a nice project one !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! too :)
Finally, closer to my price-range is this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . £375 for a running XJ40 is really not bad. There's a couple of bits that have been nicked, but considering that I've got a completely (albeit crushed) XJ40 in my back garden that's not a problem.

Well you mentioned an Alfa, so you should get the Alfa.

Good job kinja. Screw up the image why don't you

I should, but the Spitfire's eaten all my money at the moment. That's coming to an end, but I've still got a couple of grand's worth of spending to go.
No alfa for me yet :(

Damn, well at least maybe sometime in the future. I'm trying to get an Alfa myself, trying to work out the details.

Sweet, which Alfa?
I certainly will at some point soon. I keep checking for Alfetta 1750 saloons. They're jsut such a gorgeous shape, and would be beastly with a 3.0l from a 75. A GTV6 or 75 would go just as nicely :)

The Alfetta sedans are beautiful, and the 3.0L would go perfect with them. I'm looking at this particular GTV.

Good God that's a pretty one. It's not the one that the Classic Car Club Manhattan have is it?
I wasw looking at 2000 GTVs, but they seem to be stubbornly rising in price just as fast as I gain earning power. They're consistantly just beyond my reach :(

It is the Classic Car Club Alfa, good eye. They're offering it at a reasonable price, and it'll most likely be the only chance that I'll have to buy one. I just have to go see it in person, and convince my dad to let me buy it.

Good luck :) be sure to post lots of pics if you do get it

ALL the pictures will be posted if I do get it. I want it so bad.

I'd bid, but it'll just break down, rust a lot, cost a mountain to insure, and then James Bond will steal it.

Don't you already own an Alfa? Sure, it's a sensible and reliable FWD one, but it's still an Alfa. Right?
![]() 03/09/2014 at 16:19 |

Yes, I do. I want to see if all these rumours about them being rusty and unreliable are true. So far, I've owned one and it's been fine.
I need a larger sample for a proper scientific test though.
I'm going to have to buy more Alfas. For science, see :)

I've got the same sentiment for French cars. Mine has been absolutely perfect. Yesterday I spotted this perfect 504 coupe V6 in Germany for way too little money. I don't have a garage or mechanical skills and although I could afford it I'd rather not. It itches though.

But it's sooo beautiful :) love the old 504s
Getting one would be a good reason to acquire the other two...

If you've got the parts for the XJ, get it and fix it up! otherwise it's only going to get crushed at that kind of price :(

That's what I'm thinking. I've already slung them an email asking about the level of rust on the body, although I'm not sure when I'll be able to scrape the cash together.
It's usually scrapper or banger-racing for these old Jags. Shame really, they're a better car than the series.
